The packing list

What comes with you.

No platform moves everything. Here's what does, and what needs a plan.

Moves across

✓ INCLUDED
  • Products, variants and imagesImported, then checked line by line. Missing data gets flagged so you can fill the gaps.
  • Categories, as Shopify collectionsRebuilt as collections, automatic ones where a rule does the work for you.
  • CustomersNames, emails, addresses, and marketing consent so your email list stays compliant.
  • Order historyPast orders for your records and your customers' accounts.
  • Pages and blog postsYour content, with titles, descriptions and images intact.
  • Every old URLRedirected to its new home so Google, and anyone with a bookmark, lands in the right place.

Needs a plan

⟶ HANDLED
  • Customer passwordsNo platform can move them; they're stored encrypted. Shopify's customer accounts sign in with a one-time code by email, so nobody has to set a new password. We'll help you send a heads-up.
  • Plugins and appsWordPress plugins and Wix apps don't come across. We map each one to a Shopify feature or app, and drop the ones you don't need.
  • ReviewsMoved into your new reviews app. How depends on where they live now.
  • Active subscriptionsNeed a careful hand-over with your subscription app so nobody gets double-charged or dropped.
  • Custom fieldsThings like size guides or ingredients stored in custom fields become Shopify metafields, so they stay editable.
Keeping your rankings

Why stores drop after a move.

Nearly every URL changes when you move to Shopify. Miss a redirect and the ranking goes with it.

Typical default URLs. Your store's exact patterns may differ; we map the real ones in the audit.

Where you're moving from

Every platform packs differently.

The steps are the same. The gotchas aren't.

WooCommerce to Shopify

Often it's the upkeep that pushes brands to move: plugin updates that break things, hosting bills, security patches, and a store that slows down with every add-on.

  • Variable products become Shopify variants, checked against Shopify's option limits
  • Custom fields become metafields, so they stay editable
  • Each plugin mapped to a Shopify app or built-in feature
  • WordPress blog posts moved with their URLs redirected

Wix to Shopify

Wix is a fine place to start. Brands tend to move when they need more from their checkout, their apps and their product pages than Wix Stores gives them.

  • Products and contacts exported and cleaned up for Shopify
  • Pages and blog posts rebuilt properly, not pasted in
  • /product-page/ URLs redirected to their Shopify equivalents
  • Wix apps replaced with Shopify apps that do the same job

Squarespace to Shopify

Beautiful for content, but growing catalogues hit its limits. The good news: Squarespace stores often have a strong look we can carry across and build on.

  • Products exported and enriched with the detail Shopify can hold
  • Blog content moved from Squarespace's export
  • Your design direction carried into a custom Shopify theme
  • /shop/p/ product URLs redirected one by one

Magento to Shopify

Bigger catalogues, more integrations, often B2B. These moves are usually to Shopify or Shopify Plus, and they take the most planning.

  • Data, apps and integrations audited before a line of code
  • Built on Plus with Markets if you sell internationally
  • Staged cutover, so trading never stops
  • Typically 10–14 weeks for a full Plus move
How the move runs

Four steps. No lost sales.

Your current store keeps trading the whole time.

  1. Step 01

    Audit

Every URL, product, app, integration and email flow listed. We find out what's worth moving and what's quietly costing you money.

↳ A move plan and fixed price
  2. Step 02

    Map & build

Redirect map, data mapping and the new store itself, whether that's a fresh theme or a full redesign.

↳ A new store, ready for data
  3. Step 03

    Test move

A full trial import. We check products, prices, customers and orders, then test checkout, emails and every redirect.

    ↳ A signed-off test store
  4. Step 04

    Switch & watch

Final orders and customers imported, domain switched, redirects live. Then we watch Search Console and sales closely.

↳ Open for business, same day

About redesigns
Questions

Good questions. Straight answers.

Will I lose my Google rankings if I move to Shopify?

Not if the migration is planned properly. Shopify uses fixed URL patterns, so almost every old URL changes. We map every old URL to its new home with a 301 redirect, keep your page titles, descriptions and content, and watch Google Search Console after launch.

Some movement in the first few weeks is normal. Lasting drops usually come from missing redirects, which is exactly what we prevent.

Why does moving to Shopify change our URLs?

Shopify uses fixed URL patterns: products always live under /products/, collections under /collections/ and pages under /pages/. Your current platform almost certainly uses different ones, so nearly every URL changes when you move.

Google has years of trust built up in those old URLs. If they return a "page not found", that trust goes with them. That's why every old URL gets a permanent 301 redirect to its closest new page, and why retired products go to their collection rather than the home page.

How long does a Shopify migration take?

It depends on the size of the store and whether you redesign at the same time. A small store moving onto a new theme can be done in a few weeks. A full redesign with migration typically takes 8 to 12 weeks, and a large Magento store moving to Shopify Plus around 10 to 14 weeks.

Can customers keep their passwords when we move to Shopify?

No platform can move passwords, because they're stored encrypted. With Shopify's customer accounts, customers sign in with a one-time code sent to their email, so returning customers don't need to set a new password. We'll help you send a short heads-up email before launch.

Can you migrate our order history?

Yes. Past orders come across so you keep your sales history and customers can see their previous orders. We'll agree up front how far back to go, since very old orders sometimes aren't worth the clean-up.

Will our store go offline during the migration?

No. Your current store keeps trading while we build and test the new one. On launch day we import any final orders and customers, switch your domain to Shopify and turn on the redirects. Customers just see the new store.

Do we have to redesign the store at the same time?

No. You can move as-is onto a Shopify theme and redesign later, or do both at once. Doing both together usually costs less overall, because the store is only rebuilt once. See how our redesigns work.
